Crystler Marina and Cornwall

 Travel Days

Sometimes you just need to cover ground, and the next two segments were just that. We needed to pass through one Canadian lock, which is notorious for delays. Well, they did not disappoint. On Sunday, we left our anchorage at Summerland Islands at 8 a.m. and had a beautiful cruise along the St. Lawrence Seaway. That is where we passed Singer Castle along the way.

Our destination was Crystler Marina, about 42 miles down the river. We arrived at the Iroquois Lock at 10:30 a.m. and were told they were waiting for a commercial vessel to pass. Well, about two hours later, we entered the chamber, and as quickly as they closed the back gate, they opened the front gate and let us pass. They may have lifted us a total of 12”. We finished the day at about 3:30 p.m.
(Above RV Park on an Island. Don’t know how they got there.)
There was nothing close to this marina, so Sue took advantage of the laundry onsite, after which we had a great meal on board. We met a really nice couple from the UK that were here doing the Loop. How crazy is that, Sheila! The next day, we were off early as we had another one of those pesky Canadian locks to get through.

We thought earlier, the better. Well, same deal, only we waited over three hours this time. When we exited the lock, we had a 5 mph following current. Next Chapter hit 15 mph! There was a fuel station right outside the lock located on an Indian reservation, which meant no federal tax on the fuel. It was a bargain at $6.50 a gallon. Choke, choke. We would be entering back into Canada, where fuel is even higher, so we decided to top the tanks off. We pulled into Cornwall Muni Marina, tied up, and had a late lunch. We were low on provisions, so we hopped on the bikes and rode a couple of miles through Cornwall, enjoying the sights.

Not too much to say about Cornwall, especially on a Monday where most everything was closed. There was a really nice bike path along the St. Lawrence. It was so relaxing that I even took in a little league baseball game that was going on right behind the marina. I was trying to guess which one would become the next MLB superstar.

Never Know what you will see along the way.

Blades for wind turbines.

We had to wait on this guy before they would let us lock thru. Money talks even in Canada!
